One by one, ships emerge.
They keep on coming.
They don't resemble any ships you've seen so far.
They make up a massive fleet. Large ships, small ships. There are even random ships jammed in between the uniform models, random cruisers and freighters.
My face goes white. “are they on our side”
Only one person in your group recognizes these ships.
You'll find out who in a second.
A mountain sun soldier runs up, panting heavily, carrying a small dome. It glows blue, like the one in the hall, and just seems to be a smaller version.
"Message for the Admiral."
Pythia steps back and they set it down, stepping back in time. Pythia grins when it activates.
The person it shows, a troll by the looks of it, salutes with a smug, but bright, grin.
"General Tylus Valentine, reporting for duty. Nice to see you again, Blood Moon."
The Elysians are here.
And that would be the Baker.
Pythia salutes back. "Nice to see you again, General."
They laugh and lower their hand. "So, you went and made yourself a second bluebird day without inviting me? Tragic."
recognizing the figure, i step toward the dome thing silently. my eyes widen at the sight.
"Oh! Hello, Silas!" They wave at you. "Nice to see you safe and sound."
i'm silent for a moment. "hi! you- you *know* all these people???"
"I do!" Tylus exclaims. "I led the army on Bluebird day, against the Empress. Your ancestors took her down, you know." They nod approvingly. "We're here to help. Any particular place we need to be?"
"Thhe miners are sic'in thhe shhips." Lepiot adds from the background. "Flo got em all riled up. No more Baroness for thhem. It's a full-scale revolution, baby."
"In that case..." Pythia nods to Lepiot before turning back to Tylus. "We could really use some ground support. But hey, you're the general here. You call the shots."
They nod. "I'll see to it, then. Hold tight and stay safe, firecracker."
The hologram deactivates.
You hear, all the way up there, a deafening cry.
Long live the sun.
It isn't a massacre anymore. Now it's a battle.
Ships begin to descend towards the city. They'll unload Elysians, and your numbers will be evened out significantly.
“okay that was kinda cool”
I smile at Pythia. "Firecracker?"
A light red blush graces her cheeks. "We've known each other for a long time. They used to let me sleep in their bakery when I needed to lay low."
"ohhhhhh! me too!!" i say, practically ecstatic at the apparent fact that i'm going to get to see the people i know again, particularly mx valentine.
Pythia turns to you and grins, putting her hands on her hips. "I have a feeling that's a thing they do. Giving lonely kids free food, a place to say." She tilts her head a little. "Though you probably weren't running for your life. And you probably didn't steal things as often."
"Anyway." She waves a hand dismissively.
"We should be in the sky fighting, and split up into smaller groups. It's more of a search and destroy now, than anything. The troops will take care of the common soldiers. We need to focus on the bigger players here."
"Important people, big ships. That sort of thing."
i cross my arms. "wouldn't consider myself 'lonely'..." i mutter under my breath.
I give pythia a little glance. It has a question in it.
She nods to you. "You can split up however you'd like."
I turn back to Lepiot for a moment. "My phone's broken, but uh, here. Let's exchange info for the future." I frown. "Do you have a pen or something?"
They snort loudly. "A pen? Whhat fuckin year is it?? Of course I don't hhave a pen. My hhandle's-" They stop. "I don't hhave a hhandle anyway. I'll get back to you whhen I do."
"Oh," I say, trying to keep the disappointment out of my voice. "That's fine. Um. For whenever you get one, mine's omittedPerjurer. So." I do a little white boy smile and give a small wave. "Bye."
I turn around and walk over to Pythia, blushing a little in embarrassment. Yikes.
"Anyone you saw that's important?" Pythia raises an eyebrow at Quin.
"Uhh... there was that Katanalosi worshipper from earlier. She had this fucking herd of Mountain Sun soldiers." I shiver. "I don't know if we could beat her, though. She's apparently only ever lost to, well, Finley. And I don't know where she is."
She frowns. "Well that's definitely fucking bad."
"Yeah. It... I don't think we should find her. But I haven't run into anyone else important."
"If nothing else, we can find her and invite Finley. But she does sound important, especially where fighting others is involved." Pythia taps her chin with a hum.
I nod. "I could get us back to the building I found her in, if that would help."
I, for one, waste no time. I'm tired of all of these people, I'm tired of everyone being fucking STUPID. I have to get out of here. I turn to Finn. "Are you okay. Can you fight."
"It would." She nods. "I might be able to find her, if I can find anything connected to her."
My hand twists at my side for a moment before I reach out and grab hers. I wordlessly start to fly and lead the way over there.
"Oh." Pythia mentions, lifting off the ground. "We need to find Rigel at some point, too. I can't feel my wing."
PYTHIA?
I spin to face her in alarm. "What the fuck?? We're going to do that first?!"
She blinks in surprise. "It's not a big deal. I'll live. The building is closer, so we go there first."
My eyebrows knit together, and I nod. "Alright. If that's what you think we should do."
I turn back to look at the remaining group. "Right. So how are we splitting up."
I stretch my hands and flick my claws in and out. I do a quick reflex on my emotional powers.
Your emotional radar seems to be working, but not at full capacity.
Out of exhaustion or does something seem limited?
You're still tired. It's probably that.
“could be better but nothing that time couldnt fix”
I frown. We don't really have any other choice, do we. "Alright." I look around. "Anyone else? Silas? Where is he."
i perk up, smiling. "here!"
"You two. Let's go." I hover a few feet off the ground and raise an expectant eyebrow at both.
i hop up and float next to hale, also raising an expectant eyebrow at finn.
Anyone else?
I nod, satisfied, and take off into the sky. Asshalefinn out.
I look over at Cashel, giving him a short nod. "You still able to fight?"
He nods silently, starting towards you.
I jog over to wherever Hale is. “so whats the plan bossanova”
Sorry, I actually fly over to Hale.
"Simple. We get a target. We destroy it." I scan the sky. Pythia said that our job now is to take out major players, right? Any indication of any of those?
"Alright. Where to?" I ask, turning my saber on.
LINK TO MAIA CASHEL
You'd assume there should be major people on the larger ships, but those are the most heavily defended.
I frown. Well, fuck. I can't take on one of those. I don't have a big enough team. Is there ANYTHING we can do?
I look out for the support ships. Are any of those destroyable?
Most of the smaller ships are either engaged in dogfights with Elysian ships or being overrun by miners.
The battle really is turning.
You did not answer my question
My answer translates to forget about them.
Alrighty then omniscient voice in my head.
I extend myself, searching out any particular sources of malicious fear or hostile emotions towards the impending forces.
You feel several different things of various intensities and types.
There's a massive presence of Katanalosi on the large worshiper ship above, and another concentrated in the gardens. There are a few other important Kat hotspots that you can detect on medium ships above. You can feel one particularly focused concentration of her on one of the two remaining large Baroness ships, but it feels different, almost distant. You bet that's her.
Switching gears, the Baroness' important players are harder to find, not bearing the stamp of the deity themselves. You sense someone very self-assured on the large Baroness ship, but not the one the Baroness is on. They're probably important.
Another fast mind, like a hunger, moves quickly through the air. A small Baroness fighter leads a whole pack of them. They hunt down and destroy other ships friendly to your cause.
Speaking of hunting, you feel a different presence, faint, but like a deity. A pack runs swiftly through the streets, and it is not your own.
Tl;dr? There's a lot of shit going on.
You feel as if there is plenty more hiding from your radar. The big Kat people are probably just too strong to give a fuck, you'd reckon.
I focus on the fighters. I point.
“they could stand to have their asses handed to them on a silver platter”
After a quick exchange with Parker that ends in a hug, Milo flies back to the alleyway and lifts Seth up, intending to take him to the gardens. Painon and Lepiot have an extremely awkward conversation. Sebastian and Cole leave upwards to fight together. A soldier comes running up to Parker, carrying a bloody sword and very bad news.
I pull out my axe. "Sounds fantastic. Let's go."
I take off after the fighters, matching pace with one of the ships on the edge of the squad. Might as well see how easy they are to take down before going after their leader. With a yell, I bring a shockwave down on the main cabin (?) of the ship. How much damage does that do?
They're ridiculously fast. It swerves away from you when you get close.
Am I able to grab onto them with telekinesis and slow them down at all? How many are there?
There are about 20, at your approximate estimation.
They're moving too fast, to powerfully, for telekinesis.
I focus on the swarm and try to impart a sense of unease and vertigo.
The swarm turns and enters a formation, bolting away from you. Only a moment later they bank sideways, circling around straight for you.
I spin out my rifle and try to take as many shots as possible at whatever looks like engine intakes on these things.
You seem to hit something important on one, so that it begins smoking, but it doesn't slow down. This is fine until they begin firing back.
“eep”
I stop flying and freefall for a bit until I’m out of firing range, then fly back to the group.
"Get out of the way!" I dodge at the lost second, ducking underneath the fighters and sending a horizontal shockwave crashing against their backs as soon as I'm upright.
i sail downward upon hearing the shots, rising back up as soon as they subside.
The shockwave jolts them a little, but not enough to permanently damage anything. The ships split and turn, reordering and gunning for another pass.
You feel yourselves all dragged down again beneath them, out of harm's way, before you can do anything else.
"SORRY!" Parker zips up next to you, releasing you all. "Just wanted to check up on you guys. Glad you're having fun."
I look down and try to sense whatever is doing this.
I grin.
“oh hi dad”
“yeah funs relative but I think were playing chicken with a bunch of fighters”
I point in their direction.
I glare. "What the fuck are you doing. We're in the middle of something, if you haven't noticed."
"Hi Finn!" He grins back. "Hi, Hale! Oh, I had some advice, as the vice CEO of telekinesis and all."
I give Hale a “really” look.
I return the look in as mocking a manner as I can muster.
Parker gives a little "aw" under his breath, then clears his throat. The ships fly past. "If you can't slow something down, then try turning the tables! It's always easier to speed things up."
He turns and quickly thrusts an open palm towards the back of the ships as they fly away, as an example. Space ripples outwards and the ships swerve, a few crashing into one another and spinning off uselessly. "Like your sibling grabbing onto the back of your bike and pushing it way faster than you want to go." Parker nods.
"Remember to stay on your toes! These are smart-ish people, and they'll think of ways to avoid whatever you do. Stay one step ahead! I'm gonna go check on Seth and Milo now! You kids have fun!!" He waves and drifts back downwards. "Try not to blow up anything that's on our side!"
I put up a thumb.
“thanks dad”
I extend the rushed and wild feeling of the hunt to help the group go faster and fight with more ferocity.
I stare at his retreating back, mostly in confusion. "What the fuck?" I mutter. I shake my head and crack my knuckles before zipping back up into the sky. "Round two."
The ships split apart and circle upwards, further into space. They seem to be adopting a new strategy already.
i glance expectantly towards halefinn, ready to follow after them.
"Keep an eye on them. Be ready to get out of the way." I narrow my eyes. What does it look like they're doing? Can I tell?
i nod at the instruction, keeping an eye on them.
It looks sort of like they're trying to make a plan, probably to deal with whoever they think poses the greatest threat. Doesn't take a genius to guess who they'll go for.
Cue the party horns, they've got a plan.
The ships divide into three groups and circle out of sight behind larger ships.
I squint at the large ships. The fighters are bound to be looping back around, probably to attack us from behind. The good thing is that they currently can't see us. "Drop!" I shout suddenly. "We'll spot them from below and catch them by surprise!"
And then, I do it.
"alright!" i do the equivalent of double-pressing space while flying in creative mode minecraft and freefall down, using one hand to keep my hat (1) from falling off. i gradually resume floating after i'm close enough to the ground.
I smile, do a two finger salute, and drop.
The bad news is that they weren't going from behind! They were going from below. You know, where you just went?
The good news is that only one third of them are!
Another third emerges from behind ships above you, spiraling down towards you, catching you between them and the ones below.
I'm sure you can guess where the other third is.
Well, I'm going to fucking use the power of GRAVITY to assist me in bringing my fucking BIGASS AXE down on these assholes. With some added rage flair, because how else am I going to explode these bitches.
I focus on the ones spiraling down from above and try to give them the instinct and gut feeling that there are bigger targets than us on the backs of the other fighter jets.
Once I have SUCCESSFULLY CHOPPED THROUGH one of the fighters (I better have, Overseer) and fallen past the rest of the fighters, I throw both hands up and give the remaining ships a big ass telekinetic shove from behind, sending them spinning right up into the ones who were descending from above. With luck, they will crash into each other. Bitches.
You slice through the wing of a ship and send it spiraling away. A shot grazes your side, but you ignore it. They do indeed keep going, and you push them quickly enough that they mostly crash into one another, rendering them useless, spinning off in trails of smoke.
The last third of the ships races towards you too fast to counter, thanks to your distraction with the others. Without warning, they all split apart moments from tearing the three of you to shreds and swerve off in random directions.
ALL MOTHER CULTISTS COME IN CLUTCH
do you think they ever
